In 2020 we "inherited" the tawny Project. It originated as an African import believed to be a fire. The single gene tawnys do look similar to fire but with a more sandy "tawny" coloration. The pattern tends to get slightly distorted as well. Some tawny combos look very similar to fire but others look very different than their fire counterparts. We are only just getting started on the possibilities and figuring out what brings out the unique qualities of the tawny gene.
We will be making some tawny animals available. If you're interested in working with this project please let us know.
Many tawny combos get faded spots randomly
Many het Pied tawny have a semi Pied look to them. Ringers, white blotches etc
Tawnys tend to stay brighter as they age. Especially with Pastel combos.
Tawny appears to be allelic with fire. Tawny fires result in black eyed leucistics with little to no yellow spots.
This is single gene tawny. Reduced pattern, dorsal stripe and blown out alien heads are common and bright sandy coloration. This is a hatchling picture.
We believe tawny and fire are allelic based on the few tawny fires that have been made. They tend to be pure white with little to no yellow spots and black eyes. This is a hatchling picture.
So far all the tawny enchi combos have resulted in a reduced enchi pattern, lighter brighter coloration with a sandy base. This a hatchling picture.
This is a tawny mojave with enchi and/or bongo. Based on similar combos we've made I believe it has bongo but with no other tawny bongo combos being made it's difficult to know. The tail half has some faded spots that are very common in tawny combos. This is a hatchling picture.
Tawny pin combos get widened separation of the pin stripes. This is a hatchling picture.
This Tawny shows the pinstripe separations, faded spots and distorted pattern. This is a hatchling picture.
This Tawny shows the cool pattern thar tawny enchis get along with the white pied like areas that het Pied tawnys get. This is a hatchling picture.
This tawny shows the crazy look het pied tawny get. Faded spots and an almost Pied look. This is a hatchling picture.
This Tawny shows the ringer look many tawnys get. This is a hatchling picture.
This Tawny shows how bright and stunning a tawny pastel combo can be. Very dark blacks and bright yellows. At over a year old the color has only gotten better looking. This is a hatchling picture.
This is the same one in the hatchling section (1c5). She's holding her color well at over a year old.
Pictures don't do her justice, crisp blacks and bright yellows. Not browning out at all.
This girl has the faded spots that many tawnys get.
I wish I would have documented this animals development. She was born pure white with a tan head. She later developed light yellow spots and those gradually turned to the colors She has today. It took about a year to fully color out and so far I havnt had it happen again.
This is a 2020 breeder female with typical tawny faded spots.
My oldest Tawny animal and one of the first produced.
